Capstone Project: Deputy Coordinator Role Guide
Overview
This capstone project is a self-paced Canvas learning experience designed to support onboarding and performance for the ATD San Diego Mentorship Program Deputy Coordinator role. The course helps learners understand the role, access key resources, and apply responsibilities through guided content, practice, and performance-support tools.
Purpose / Intended Audience
The learning experience was designed for current and future Deputy Coordinators in the ATD San Diego Mentorship Program. Its purpose is to provide a structured onboarding experience that reduces ambiguity, builds role readiness, and helps volunteers perform their responsibilities with greater confidence and consistency.
Process
I designed the course as an end-to-end learning experience in Canvas and organized it into two modules: Know the Role and Do the Work. The project included role-based content, guided resources, multimedia presentations, performance-support tools, scenario-based activities, reflection, and learner evaluation. I used practical tasks and realistic situations to connect the learning experience to the actual responsibilities of the role.
Outcome
The completed capstone provides learners with a centralized onboarding and support resource that combines instruction, practice, and job aids. Learners can build foundational understanding of the Deputy Coordinator role, explore tools and resources, and apply what they learned through scenarios and reflection activities. The project demonstrates a complete learning solution that supports both knowledge acquisition and workplace performance.
Design Reflection
This capstone helped me bring together instructional design, performance support, accessibility, and learner-centered design in one cohesive project. One key challenge was designing an experience that felt practical and supportive for busy volunteers while still being organized, engaging, and instructionally sound. The project strengthened my ability to design learning experiences that address real performance needs rather than only presenting information.
